J.D. Garrett was born in Charlottesville, VA and raised in Virginia Beach. After graduating from Frank W. Cox High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He gained the rank of Sergeant and lead an artillery squad before being honorably discharged. J.D. then received his B.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and his Juris Doctorate from the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV.After graduation from law school and being admitted to the Bar in Virginia, J.D. immediately openedhis own private practice law firm and began helping individuals charged with traffic violations and misdemeanor criminal charges. Over the years, he expanded his practice to include representing clients in minor and major felony criminal charges. Since founding his firm in 2005, J.D. has handled represented individuals in every type of criminal case ranging from a simple traffic tickets to murder charges.J.D. is certified by the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission to accept court-appointed matters for misdemeanor and non-capital felony cases. He regularly accepts appointments as defense counsel from the Virginia Beach and Norfolk General District and Circuit Courts.
J.D. is happily married to his wife, Erin, and resides with her and their young son, Cole, and his daughter, Tara in Elizabeth City, NC. He has two other sons, Michael, who lives with his mother in Houston, Texas, and Ryan who is attending Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
